Day 31: Aug 3 (Ninilchik/Homer)

Jeff, Cisco and I explored Ninilchik and Homer today. On the way to Homer, we stopped in Ninilchik. I fell in love with this little fishing community and wished we could have spent more time exploring it. Below is a description of this small town that gives it the credit and mystery its due. We reserved a few Charter Halibut fishing trips, out of Ninilchik, so you will hear more in the future about this Gem.

Copied from 2016 Kenai Peninsula Discovery Guide: Ninilchik-A photographic haven lodged in history and in legend, Ninilchik is a fishing community that lives up to its Russian name, “peaceful settlement by a river.” The flavor of this old Russian fur-trading village still emphasizes its past prominence. The Old Russian Orthodox Church, built in 1900, and the historic cemetery overlook the entire rustic village of Ninilchik, and peacefully share the brilliant Alaskan sunset skyline with Mount Redoubt and Mount Iliamna, which are perched across Cook Inlet. Beaches, rivers and boat launches provide access to Cook Inlet for world-class salmon and halibut fishing, while the community itself offers full amenities with beautiful campgrounds, both public and private, lodging and restaurant facilities.

On the road(Sterling Hwy) to Homer we stopped at the Deep Creek State Recreation Area:

We stopped at a View/Picture Spot:
Not only did it have the great view of the mountains and water, but it had raised flower and vegetable beds:

These plants are amazing. Healthy, Big and Beautiful!!

Because I have tons more pictures for Homer,  I am going to do 2 posts for today. Also, I have had some trouble with my posts and if this does not work, then I only have 1/2 a post to do over.
Wish me LUCK! Im hitting the Publish button!!!!!!!
